Starting in September 2010 a series of editions will be made every month titled Studio Rent Editions. Each will be an edition of ten at $33 USD each*. The sale of these will subsidize the rent of my artist-studio in Brooklyn, New York. Each new piece will be made in the studio during the respective month. Descriptions of current and past pieces will be posted on this web-page. An edition of one Two Month Security Deposit piece will also be made in conjunction with these editions.
NOTE: AS OF AUGUST 2011, I HAVE MOVED TO A NEW STUDIO IN LONG ISLAND CITY. EDITIONS WILL BE $1 MORE TO COMPENSATE FOR THE HIGHER PRICE OF RENT.
NOTE: As of April 2012, I move again, these are now CHEAPER.
TWO MONTH SECURITY DEPOSIT
this is an edition of one
$660
the piece includes a photo-copy of the studio contract and a signed statement indicating the information below:
upon my leaving the studio at an unknown future date, the $660 will be returned to the purchaser, under the condition that it is returned to me from the landlord
Two 5" x 7" color matte prints. The dark image was made by wrapping Christmas lights around my body. The other (above) image is obvious: in a store that sold wreaths and Christmas trees, I put wreaths over my head.

APRIL 2011 EDITION: FERRY ACROSS THE NORTH SEA
April's edition was made outside my studio - on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean. It was made while on a ferry traveling from England to Holland. It includes 1 Polaroid and 1 crushed British 5 pence coin with an image of a ferry stamped on it. The Polaroid is a view from the ferry, as it traveled across the North Sea. The image of the ferry that is stamped into the coin is the same ferry I was traveling on, made on the boat from the coin-stamping machine.
If you order this in April it will be mailed from Holland.

MAY EDITION 2011 EDITION: FROM DUCHAMP'S GRAVE (ROUEN, FRANCE)
This edition includes 2 Polaroid photographs, and five 4"x6" matte print photographs. The five prints are "out takes" made while posing on Marcel Duchamp's grave in Rouen, France to create a photograph to be inserted into Duchamps Wikipedia article (this is the inserted photograph: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Duchampgrave.jpg). The polaroids consist of one image of his grave, and another image taken in the cemetery.

JUNE 2011
In the summers there is a watermelon vendor who sits on Nostrand and Myrtle in Brooklyn, near my house. For June's edition, I bought the biggest watermelon that was being sold on June 21st, and took it to look at the Atlantic Ocean in Coney Island. The edition includes: 1) two 5"x7" photographic prints 2) a small text 3) an email including various photographic documentation by a cellular phone camera.
JULY 2011 (for chris marker)
I was nominated for the Discovery Prize at this year's photo festival in Arles, France. French film-maker, Chris Marker, was also featured in this year's festival. I brought a Maneki Neko with me to Arles, the Japanese welcome cat, and put it in different places in Arles in an attempt to meet Chris Marker (since he has a cat obsession). Instead of me trying to find him, I thought it'd be more likely that he found the cat. The edition includes seven photographic color prints, and a short text.
there is one left, email me, $33 for us and $43 for international orders

SEPTEMBER 2011 (STEALING FLOWERS TO LEARN HOW TO DRAW)
This edition includes: a 8.5" x 11" color photocopy print on heavy matte paper, a "unique" 8.5" x 11" text print-out with color pencil writing, a stapled stack of 8.5" x 11" photo-copies of the last part of a book I just read (Hartmut Rosa, Alienation and Acceleration), and about 10 or so emails.
Since the beginning of this month I have started to teach myself to draw. I have never really taken any drawing or painting classes before, and I have never really habitually drawn. This month's edition can maybe be seen as a kind of documentation of this process of learning. The color print is of two drawings I recently made, a text I wrote of putting together some thoughts of what I was doing (with "unique" color markings on each one), and photocopies of a book I was reading. The reading is loosely related, it looks at time and speed. In a sense, learning how to draw was not just learning a technique, but also re-teaching myself how to sit and focus on one thing for a long time. How to spend time with something.
I am serious about this. I am making drawings everyday. And maybe will do it FOREVER. This edition will also include emails of drawings as I finish them, sent from my iPad, using it's horrible camera. You'll probably get 10 or so emails... And you will receive them in your email box right when I finish them. IN THE MOMENT. This is an example.
If anyone wants an original drawing (uhh, I've only been doing this for a few weeks...), email me and we can negotiate something.

This edition is titled PRIVATE ACCESS, referring to my Public Access project. This is a documentation of me trespassing onto a private beach on Lake Tahoe in Nevada. The act was photographed with a medium format Polaroid camera. The edition includes: an 11"x17" color laser print of the 4 Polaroids of the trespass and one medium format black and white Polaroid of me looking out at the water on the private beach.
note: because of material costs, this edition is a few dollars more than usual.
also note: the 11x17 paper will be folded to fit in the envelope.
June 2012
this edition is from this event: http://davidhorvitz.com/wordpress/?p=590 I got stuck on a rock off the coast of Hong Kong, and was saved by a police ship. I was saved by signaling to the police ships with my camera's flash, putting the camera on a tripod, using the self timer, and standing in front of the camera... Every 15 seconds in pitch black they would see a flash of me standing on a rock... I did not intended to get stuck. I was making a different photograph, and then it got dark and I couldn't get back...
The edition is a collection of 4"x6" photographs + a text about what happened.
JULY 2012
I'm making a new edition for my Public Access project. It will have sand from California sprinkled on the wet ink of a screenprint. The sand, from Southern California, was mailed to me by mother ("Mom, I need some California sand, can you go to the beach, collect some, and mail it to me?"), sent to my apartment in Brooklyn. There is still some sand left over. These editions will be an envelope of California sand. Sent from my mother in California to NY and then to you...
The screenprint edition will be available in a week or two, with the launch of a new book.
there are two left, email if you want
August 2012
This edition is based off a piece I did for the Kitchen show I am in. Starting at local noon (which is when the sun is highest in the sky) at my house in Brooklyn, I walk towards the sun until sunset. I ended up on a bridge somewhere in New Jersey. Along the way I made photographs of the sun and sent them out on Twitter. This edition is a selected digital photograph of the sun printed in color on a transparency. Each edition is a unique photograph. Each comes with one photograph. This comes with a text .Read more about the piece here. You can put this on an overhead projector and project it big on your wall.
September 2012
This edition is based off my new book: Sad, Depressed, People. (note: the book does not come with the edition). The edition includes a photo-copy from inside the book, the alphabetized list of tags/key-words (words used to describe images of depression and sadness). While at a residency in Shandaken, NY, I picked different tags from the book (such as: blue, lookingaway, eyesclosed, etc...). I wrote the tags on found roadside signs (after I painted them black), and then placed the signs on a country road somewhere in the Catskills. The edition also includes an A4 sized ink jet color print of one of the images and, a printed tex. The envelope is stamped on the back. All papers will be folded to fit inside the envelope.
