A LIST OF THINGS HAPPENING OR THAT HAVE HAPPENED.

2008

  • Egoesdayglow curated by Emily Mast at 533 Gallery in Los Angeles. May 31 - June 28. Group show, each artist has a few days to do something with what the previous artist has left. I am doing this via correspondence. 533 South Los Angeles Street. fivethirtythree@gmail.com - contact gallery for hours. I am last on the list.
  • Lucky Dragons curated a day of music for the East River Music Project on June 7, 2008. I opened the show with 5 minutes of staring at the sky. The programs were never printed, which had the instructions for this, so the audience didn't know they were supposed to look at the sky. But the performers did.
  • Someone's Garden issue #6. This is a publication based out of Tokyo. There is a theme of growing, in which images and a text from my recent sunsets show is in. I asked them to print my text in English, but to translate it to Japanese by hand over the words. So, it is a scan of my text, with Japanese hand-writing over it - an attempt at conveying something.
  • Antlantica May issue. There is an article about me in this Icelandic based magazine. It's an on flight magazine for Icelandic Air. I usually would not list press here because I just want to list things I am doing or have done (not things about me), but I made something specifically for the magazine to go along with the interview/article. So, that is why it is list.
  • The Yellow Reader. This publication accompanies the show, "Yellow," curated by Lia Trinka-Browner at the Fellows of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles. I have a contribution to the reader.
  • Public Sex Acts. Edition of 100 zines made by the Holster in Brooklyn. Black and white photo-copies of photographs I have taken of (mostly disregarded, but not all) objects that look as if they are in sexual positions. All images are from wandering around Los Angeles and New York. I did not seek these photos out, I put the collection together after-the-fact.
  • Curated the cover of 5 Showpapers in New York. I chose Brendan Fowler, Denise Schatz, Vlatka Horvat, Emilie Halpern, and Zach Houston.
  • To A Sunset In Palos Verdes. A solo show at siteLA in Los Angeles. Every afternoon I left the gallery and took buses to Palos Verdes to watch the sunset. I returned every night to the gallery and put up a photo of that day's sunset on the wall. The show grew each day and concluded with 15 sunsets at the closing. There was a text-piece, a small editiion book, the sunset times for the two weeks sign painted on the window front, and some other things.
  • I had a video in a screening in Portland curated by Israel Lund.
  • Here is Where You'll Find Me. A two-person show at The Lab 101 in Culver City. I had four polaroid works on display, as well as a binder of photograph and text pieces.
  • I Will Go Somewhere and Send You Something From There. A solo window space show at Right Window gallery in San Francisco. Everyday of the exhibition I would send an email to the curator of the space. He would print the emails and hang them in the gallery. I would also leave my house in Brooklyn and go somewhere and document where I ended up and mail the photograph to the gallery. The photographs would arrive a few days after the coinciding emails, and would get put up next to the emails. The window started empty and was full of emails and photographs by the closing of the show.
  • Spacing Out. A group show curated by Cinders Gallery at Space 1026 in Philadelphia. I had one polaroid work in this show as well as a wall installation of a photograph of the sky from everyday of 2008 up until the installation of the show.
  • Gravity Art. A group show at Telic in Los Angeles curated by Rene Daalder. I had this in the show.
  • California as Paradox: Imagined Communities. Fort Gallery, San Francisco. I had a video in this show.
  • Xiu Xiu: Women As Lovers DVD - There are some videos and a slide show I made for Xiu Xiu that was included on the special DVD on this album.
  • A Wikipedia Reader. A book I did with Mylinh Trieu Nguyen involving a handful of artists. Free PDF download.

OTHER THINGS

You know, also, just for your information, I make so many small little things it would be impossible to catalogue everything. So maybe, you'll find some book I made that Printed Matter still has, or Ooga Booga, or somewhere - but you won't find any information about it here. Like, a post-card I made of my holding up a polaroid of the sky to the sky - so the polaroid is almost transparent, or maybe it's that I'm holding the sky in my hands. Or, a book from a film I made. Or a book of color digital photographs that I just had to make one night, but only made 50 of them, and bound them, and sent them all to stores and didn't even save a copy... So, keep that in mind, there are other things out there. I think, after writing this, that I should make small editions of books and just put blank spaces on my website for them - just so you know that I made something, and that something exists, but that I am not telling you what it is, that you either: 1) Have to seek it out. 2) Just go on with the knowledge that something else exists. Both are intended outcomes.
