SIGN/CO-SIGN

Light & Wire Gallery presents:

Sign/Co-sign
December 1 – 31, 2009
Miami Beach, Florida

“Every exhibition is one possibility surrounded by many other possibilities which are worth being
explored.” – Marcel Broodthaers

Light & Wire Gallery is pleased to announce a public group project to take place in Miami Beach.
New works by six artists will be on view at six bus stop shelters around Miami Beach during the
Art Basel and NADA fairs.

In their strategic locations, these artworks utilize a normally benign advertising space to reflect
upon notions of South Florida, international commerce, and existing art world structures. The
shelter posters together function as a site-specific exhibition that will be displayed for one month
to passers-by, public transit patrons, and the occasional, intentional, art-seeking viewer. During
and after the many art fairs have retreated from the city, the exhibition route will continue to be
accessible by car or bus service. A map will be available for download on our website.

Light & Wire Gallery is a young, contemporary art gallery based in Los Angeles, and exists
primarily online. Light & Wire Gallery creates web-based shows of emerging artists on a monthly
basis, and occasionally presents exhibitions in physical gallery spaces. Our mission is to forge
opportunities for emerging artists to create and exhibit work outside the white cube format,
utilizing a viable, audience-friendly medium. Thus, we have created the exhibition Sign/Co-sign in
Miami Beach to function inside the contemporary art context, yet by circumventing art fair booth
fees, contributing a public artwork for an entire community.
